How I Started
I've always felt like a Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of None. I can try a new art or crafting style and be fairly good at it on the first attempt, but then I eventually get distracted by something new that I want to try. I have often felt discouraged, wondering why I haven't found the one style of art that I feel incredibly passionate about. But as time goes by, I think that it's more of a blessing. I have the freedom to try something new, and even if I move on from it, I can always come back.
That is initially how I came into the field of Graphic Design. I really enjoyed art classes in high school, but at the time I thought, "What kind of job would I have with an Art degree? Be a teacher? That's not for me." So I went into college Undecided. I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to do during my Sophomore year, after all of my General Education classes were almost over. I talked with Student Support Services and told them about how I liked to create and make YouTube videos. They told me about Interactive Digital Media with an emphasis in Visual Imaging. The program sounded right up my alley. So I took my first Intro to Drawing class, and I was in love! Who would have thought, me, getting an art degree? I never saw it coming.
Where I Am
I worked at a small print and design shop for five-plus years and learned so much! As a Graphic Designer, I communicated directly with the clients to create digital and printed products, and I really enjoyed being able to cultivate those relationships. Having worked at a print shop, I was lucky to learn additional knowledge and skills that I can take with me to new experiences. I now know the whole process from start to finish for product production, and I can design for printed items as well as digital. I'm pleased that I can  also use this information for my personal art.
I love making things, and keeping my hands busy. In my spare time I design beer labels for my fiancé (he makes homebrews), I also enjoy nature photography, and crafting. I'm currently in the middle of creating an elaborate wedding planning journal. Most recently, though, I have had a refreshed interest in watercolor painting. It's becoming one of my favorite mediums.
Outside of my artistic endeavors, you can find me playing with my cats (Figaro and Cleo), traveling with my fiancé, and trying to keep my houseplants alive.
